BLOUNTSTOWN, FL (March 14, 2016)- The Board of Directors for Calhoun Liberty Hospital and Hospital CEO Ruth Attaway today announced the hospital has engaged Alliant Management Services to bring professional management services to the hospital. Attaway will transition her responsibilities as hospital administrator and CEO to Interim CEO James Heitzenrater, FACHE beginning this week and will assume the role of Chairman of the Board.
“I feel like I was put in this position for a purpose, and that purpose was to save our hospital,” said Attaway. “Now that we’re moving in the right direction, this company and Mr. Heitzenrater will be able to carry through with that mission, and I am excited about this new position of leadership for our Board of Directors.”
Alliant will provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of the hospital and lead the strategic direction of the organization. The Board of Directors, led by Attaway, will maintain its role as the governing body of the hospital and will continue to exercise its control over its affairs.
Heitzenrater brings extensive leadership experience helping full-service and critical access hospitals to become strong and vital community partners. In his 25-year career in hospital management, Heitzenrater has demonstrated a passion for across-the-board quality in operations, finances and clinical services.
“Mr. Heitzenrater’s first order of business will be to stabilize our organization and build a forward-looking plan to continue to grow with our community,” said past Board Chair Laddie Williams. “We have every confidence in his strategic abilities and his enthusiastic commitment to our mission.”
Most recently as interim CEO, Heitzenrater helped to solidify the direction of Jefferson Hospital in Louisville, GA; Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva, AL; and Allegheny Memorial Hospital in Sparta, NC. He also led St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County in LaFollette, TN; Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Hospital in Mount Sterling, KY; and Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in Sugar Land, TX.
Calhoun Liberty Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility which must maintain an annual average length-of-stay of no more than 96 hours for acute inpatient care. This means the hospital focuses on caring for common conditions and outpatient care, transferring more critical patients to larger hospitals once they have been stabilized. Calhoun Liberty Hospital often also functions as a primary care facility for many local residents due to a shortage of local physicians who are unable to accept new patients.
Since its founding in 1978, Alliant Management Services has been recognized as a national leader in providing supportive and innovative management systems in virtually all areas of hospital operation. Alliant currently manages 15 hospitals, mostly Critical Access Hospitals, in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. The closest managed hospital is located in Chipley, FL. Headquartered in Louisville, KY, Alliant maintains a collaborative relationship with Norton Healthcare and Blue & Co., LLC to offer its client hospitals a comprehensive array of operational, clinical and financial resources.
