On August 17, Calhoun Liberty Hospital began caring for patients in our new 50,000-square-foot facility. Within the first 90 days, the hospital was operating with expanded services, modern capabilities, and a renewed commitment to dependable care for the people of Calhoun and Liberty Counties.
Transitioning from 13,000 square feet of useable space into a contemporary facility was a major step forward. The added space and updated systems have allowed our team to enhance patient experience and bring more services home to the community. Utilization has increased by approximately 20 percent compared to the same period last year, demonstrating how needed this facility is.
The new hospital now supports services that previously required travel, including cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, infusion therapy, expanded laboratory services, inpatient and outpatient therapy, and advanced imaging. Most imaging and outpatient appointments can be quickly scheduled, helping families receive timely care.
In its first 90 days, CLH recorded:
- 3,268 emergency visits
- 2,719 outpatient clinic and therapy visits
- 21,529 lab tests
- 3,331 imaging procedures
- 2,577 respiratory procedures
- 500 inpatient care days
- 4,652 meals served
- And one safe emergency baby delivery
These numbers reflect a busy hospital meeting a wide range of community needs.
CEO Emily Brown expressed appreciation for the team, noting that they have adapted quickly while continuing the detailed work of adjusting to a facility nearly four times the size of the old hospital. Nearly every process and procedure has required review and scaling, and she shared pride in how colleagues have embraced this transition with focus and commitment. “The response from our community in these first 90 days confirms how important this new hospital is for the region,” said Board Chair Mark Plummer. “Our colleagues have risen to the challenge, our patients are choosing local care in greater numbers, and the new facility is already strengthening services that families once had to travel for. We are proud of this progress, and we are committed to continuing the work that will carry CLH into its next phase of growth.”
