After receiving three heart stents in July, Dr. Labon Bontrager’s cardiologist recommended a structured cardiac rehabilitation program as part of his recovery plan. Instead of traveling out of the area for care, he was able to begin treatment through CLH’s cardiac and pulmonary rehab program, allowing him to stay consistent with appointments and remain engaged in his progress without the added strain of long-distance travel.
The program is led by Sandra Schul, Director of Respiratory Therapy, and therapist Wyndi Kever, and provides guided, monitored exercise sessions designed to safely rebuild strength and stamina. Dr. Bontrager shared that the experience has been both encouraging and motivating, crediting the therapists for creating a supportive environment that helps patients stay focused on their goals. They celebrate progress, hold patients accountable, and create an environment that encourages steady improvement. He smiled as he described listening to music he enjoys during workouts, noting that there have even been a few sing-alongs.
He expressed appreciation that this level of care is now available locally, noting that convenient access makes an important difference for patients recovering from cardiac or pulmonary conditions.
“When you don’t have to spend the whole day traveling for an appointment, it makes all the difference. It allows you to stay committed to the care you need and actually enjoy the process,” he added.
